Chiang Dao Basecamp – Borderless Friendship Foundation
The Chiang Dao Basecamp is a ministry located just outside of the city of Chiang Dao, Thailand about 1.5 hours north of Chiang Mai. In the NGO world, they are known as “Borderless Friendship Foundation”. They have around 140 children at their Leadership School at Basecamp with approximately 80 children living in the “Primary School” age home (ages 5 to 13) and around 50 high school students living in a separate “Youth” dormitory as well. Most of the children are “orphans” or come from families living along the Thai-Myanmar border, who can no longer take care of them. They are often hungry and have never had the chance to go to school. They often come from non-Christian backgrounds and are “animist” believing in Spirits.
Our home provides a safe place for them to live and grow and offers them education and a chance to study in school. At the same time, they also get to learn important “life skills” such as how to raise pigs and chickens. They also learn about sustainable agriculture programs and help take care of our fruit trees, orchards and vegetables. As well, our children get to hear about God, the love of Jesus and the Christian way of life and take part in regular bible studies, worship and prayer times, as well as going to church on Sundays. They also have many opportunities to to play sports (soccer & volleyball), study music (guitar, singing, piano/keyboards and drums), dance and learning the English language.
Teams can stay on site in special rooms located “behind” the school. They are very comfortable and they also rent them out to special guests and tourists etc as part of their “business plan”. The rooms come with fans or air con (depending on your budget), beds, sheets, pillows, plus western style toilets and hot water showers. We can also house teams in dorm style rooms if their budget does not allow them to stay in the “nicer” guest house rooms.
We love having teams come and are excited to have team members invest in the lives of our young people, building friendships and relationships and as well as being able to share about the love of Jesus. It’s a fantastic place located in an absolutely gorgeous area surrounded by beautiful mountains.
“Borderless Friendship Foundation exists to ensure that the hill tribe children in our care, mostly of whom are stateless, have a safe place to live, with food and clothing, and access to health care and education. We do this through supporting 7 hostels that house approximately 400 hill tribe children in total. Some do have parents who may be too poor to look after their children, or they may live too far away to access school. Most do not have parents – they may have died from AIDS or because they have no access to proper health care. Education is critical to the survival of these children. Without it they are at risk of living a life of poverty, drug abuse and sex trafficking.”

The specific location your team would be staying at is the Chiang Dao Basecamp location, just outside of Chiang Dao in Chiang Mai province. (out of the 7 locations they run in Northern Thailand)
You can check out some pictures of the Basecamp here and see what the rooms/buildings look like. We also have a restaurant/coffee shop on site and our team can also prepare meals for your team based on your daily budget.

We also recently finished our brand new church facility on our property, along with 2 full size “soccer pitches/sports fields” with lights etc. We are now able to host soccer tournaments from neigboring communities as well. Check out the highlight video below…
We would love teams to come and teach English to the children and also practice “conversational English” with them (both primary and high school aged). Plus do bible studies, playing games and special activities, teach music, share dances, play sports/soccer, do church ministry, share testimonies, do evangelism, have worship and prayer times together, do hilltribe village ministry, along with being involved in various on site work projects as well. But basically, we would love your team to “live” amongst the children and take part in their daily lives, building relationships and friendships and just invest in the lives of these “At Risk” children. We also have lots of animals on site as well plus 2 wonderful dogs named “Basecamp” and “Chiang Dao”.
Aajaan Promote (Pastor Promote), the leader and founder of this ministry is a Lahu hill tribe man himself. His personal testimony is an incredible testimony to God’s goodness and so inspiring. He himself was an “At Risk” child when he was young and when he found God, he decided to dedicate his life to helping other “At Risk” children and knew that having a personal relationship with Jesus, plus education were the key to help other “at risk” children survive and have meaningful purpose driven lives.
God has been doing AWESOME things in our community over the last few years and we have grown and developed so much. Along with our Coffee Shop and “Basecamp”, we also run “Camp Cocoa”, which is a “glamping” tourist business located not too far from Basecamp. We have many “tents” located on the side of a mountain with stunning views where people/tourists can come and stay and enjoy nature and the beautiful surroundings. We also have our highschool students work there as part of our “development” process, so they can learn business skills and work skills.
We are confident that you’ll love coming to the Chiang Dao Basecamp to do ministry with our children and youth. It will be a life changing experience and we would love to have you come!
