Noh Bo Academy is a Christian Mission boarding school, set up to provide a Christian secondary education for displaced Karen young people. It is situated in the village of Noh Bo, on the Thai/Myanmar border, about two hours drive north of Maesot. There are approximately 200 students at the school, aged 13-23. The majority of students come from the refugee camps, along the border, directly from Burma (Myanmar) or else are first generation settled in Noh Bo Village. The local Karen teachers are supplemented with volunteer teachers from English speaking countries, who live at the school, teaching English language, and also leading Bible studies, Christian Union, and school assemblies. It is the presence of these volunteers, that makes Noh Bo a desirable place for students to study. They are very keen to pursue a good education, and a good knowledge of English is highly desirable. Over the years a number of students have become Christians as a result of attending the school. Your team will live in our volunteer house on the school premises, offering opportunity for informal talk with students out of school hours. Despite the hardships of their background they are a kind and gentle people and the students are deeply appreciative of all that is done for them. Come and join us in helping equip the students for a better future – today!
