Chiang Mai
The vision of Abba House is threefold:
We provide long term care for young boys at risk. ( At risk of becoming victims to the sex slave industry of Thailand) Some boys however are rescued sex slaves who were homeless and hungry and selling their bodies for a bowl of rice, others young boys who have been trafficked by their mothers and violated by pedophiles.
We provide long term care for young girls at risk. (At risk of becoming victims to the sex slave industry of Thailand.) They mainly come from poor families, in the northern Hill Tribe area of Thailand. Some are orphaned due to murder or HIV, some are daughters of working prostitutes, some have been raped or some have been abandoned due to a parents in prison.
It is also Abba Houses’s vision to fulfil the Great Commission, to make disciples and to baptise through reaching out to the local community. Our Outreaches are to the local Boy’s Detention Centre, the Drug Rehabs, Prisons, HIV Home, Home for Disabled children and Mae Jo College. A.H. has a one hour weekly Radio Slot, broadcasting from a F.M. radio station. There are also opportunities to witness to the bar-girls working in the Red Light district at night, in down-town Chiang Mai. These are some of our evangelical efforts.
Requirements for ministry would be:an ability to teach Conversational English, also training in drama skits, songs, and guitar for the many varied outreaches, with sermons and altar calls that average 200 people saved a year in 95% Buddhist nation. Everyone will get to share Bible verses and what they have meant to them in their lives, to live a successful Christian life. Water baptisms are common. Elephant riding on Saturdays is one of the many fun things to do on your day off. Footnote: Volunteers must be 15 and over with the maturity to preach at least 15-minute sermons and or Bible lessons, 6 days a week. Music ability and Conversational English teaching skills are a plus. The longer you and yours can stay the better; we have new accommodation at THB 150 ($5) per person, per night.
Vision – One vision is to ensure that each and every girl/boy at Abba House has the opportunity to receive an education, all the way through high school or life skill training, like carpentry or brick laying. etc. There is an emphasis on teaching Conversational English, to give our girls/boys a competitive edge in the work place when they are ready to leave. We have a Thai church, and have Christian students from Mae Jo College attending. We hope we can reach out to the over 10,000 university students of Mae Jo College and the nearby community.
