The Shan people of Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist group with less than 1% Christians, face persecution and hardship due to civil war and political instability. Many have fled to Thailand, where the Shan Outreach Center operates two locations in Chiang Mai and Fang. In Chiang Mai, we focus on urban ministry, reaching migrant workers and refugees through the “Meeting Point” center, which hosts a church, café, Bible studies, children’s ministry and community outreach. In Fang, located near the Thai-Myanmar border, we serve Shan workers in agriculture with the Meeting Point daycare center and the “School of Tomorrow,” offering education based on the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum to around 20-25 children from the Shan tribe and other tribal backgrounds. Our vision is to raise up local Shan leaders, strengthen their faith, and create a resource center for evangelism, discipleship, education, and community development.
We offer a variety of outreach opportunities, including friendship evangelism, discipling new believers, and preaching and teaching in the church. There are also opportunities to serve in women’s and children’s ministries, engage in prayers and intercession, and visit Shan communities. Additionally, you can contribute by teaching English or leading 2-3 day seminars, if your team is interested. These activities allow for impactful ministry and the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of the Shan people.
