Baan Phak Phing houses girls between the ages of 6 and 18 years old. At first sight there is nothing different about these girls. They play, laugh, and fight, just like any other girls in that age group. It is in fact a miracle that they can live like this, in happiness, because these girls have all been abused at a very young age.
We offer these girls a warm and safe home that is closely based off of a true home. We have groups of a maximum of 10 girls living in 3 houses with each of the houses having 4 mothers who work in shifts. Additionally, we have 3 small houses for the young adults, who are almost ready to integrate back into society, where they learn to live independently. In the houses the girls receive love, structure, coaching and education. Our goal is to prepare them to retake their place in society and to give them a chance to return to their own environments.
Most of them don’t know what it is like to live in a safe and healthy family environment. Many have been abused by people from their direct surroundings, and often directly at the hands of the people who were responsible for their “safe” environment. Some of the girls were sold by their families.
VISION
It is our vision that the girls who live with us in Baan Phak Phing will receive a good foundation that will enable them to live well-balanced lives within their own culture. Through love and nurturing and the correct attention from our local staff of mature Thai women we help them to recover physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially, so they can fully integrate into Thai society. We work to restore their relationships with their family and want to give them a good perspective for the future.
We aim to provide training, counseling, and a safe, supportive home environment, not just a house, to help these girls to heal and grow emotionally. Many of the girls are emotionally traumatized and it is our hope that they will heal and grow so that their emotional age will more accurately reflect their physical age. It is one of our goals that the girls will eventually be able to live independently. Through providing emotional stability, continual mentorship and assistance with job placement and training, we hope that this will be a reality for each of them.
