Thai Culture Facts
S01
Our church and ministry center is located right in the middle of the Moklen Sea Gypsy people group which is one of the most unreached ethnic groups in Thailand.
Our main focus of ministry is to reach the younger generation of Moklen students and children with the love of Jesus and His Good News. We want them to hear more about the Lord Jesus Christ.
The group of people referred to as “Moken” are actually three distinct tribes living along the Andaman Coast of Burma and Thailand – the Moken of the Mergui archipelago, the Moklen of Phang Nga province, and the Urak Lawoi living from Phuket southward to Satun. With Austronesian roots, their language, culture and lifestyle are unique, and they have a history of peaceful coexistence with mainland neighbors.
We work mainly with the Moklen in Phang Nga province.
The Moklen have a long history of living in the Mergui archipelago between Burma and the islands of Thailand’s North Andaman coast. As sea nomads, the Moklen used to spend most of their lives on traditional houseboats known as Kabang, moving from bay to bay depending on the wind and weather. The Moklen do not have a written language and their history is passed down verbally through folklore from generation to generation. Family connections are strong and dependable. Furthermore, the Moklen language knows no words for individual possession which is reflected in a culture of sharing and giving. The Moklen are animists and have great understanding and respect for their environment and natural resources.
We love to host teams from around the world and enjoy serving alongside them, making a difference in the lives of the Moklen people and their families.
We do this primarily through teaching English and teaching the Bible, singing songs and worshiping together, doing special beach activities, sharing our faith with our neighbors and doing evangelism, visiting the local public schools and sharing testimonies and doing special outreaches, praying together, doing service projects and also outreaches in the nearby rubber plantation. Our students love having teams come and enjoy having fun together, playing sports, singing songs, doing special games and activities and hearing about God.
Please pray about having your team or group come to beautiful Phang Nga province in southern Thailand and take a life changing journey with us and see the Moklen people come to faith in Christ. We are confident that your life will never be the same as you experience this adventure with us and God.
